The Kalamazoo Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited has over 500 members in Southwestern Michigan. The chapter holds monthly meetings from September through April, where you can talk with fellow anglers who are concerned about trout habitat and the future of trout fishing. You can learn where the area hot spots are, the best time to go, and the best ways to catch trout. You can participate in outings coordinated by the chapter, hear famous anglers talk about their favorite techniques and waters, you can win great prizes at the annual National Conservation Banquet, but more important than all that ........
You can help us to assure the future of trout fishing! The Kalamazoo Valley Chapter was formed in 1965, making it one of the oldest in the nation. Over the years your chapter has undertaken a host of projects, ranging from its ongoing work on Augusta Creek in Kalamazoo County, the restoration of Campbell Creek in Van Buren County, projects on Swan Creek, Silver Creek, and Sand Creek in Allegan County, and protecting Prairie Creek in Barry County. The chapter has also assisted or supported other groups with projects on the Pere Marquette, the Au Sable, the Manistee, and the Dowagiac River, and has also made donations to assist the Restoration of Atlantic Salmon in America. The chapter has built a Stream Table that can be used to build working models of flowing streams. This is a great tool to use in schools and public places to teach the public about the mission of Trout Unlimited. Your chapter has taken an active role in protecting area cold water resources from degradation by industrial, agricultural, and developmental interests, who often fail to understand the value of an undisturbed trout stream. The chapter publishes a newsletter to keep the members aware of all the chapter activities. In 1986 "Slack Lines" received the Jean Bollinger Award for being the best TU Newsletter in the nation. It continues to be a top quality publication. The chapter has been honored by the State Council in 1985, 1987 and again in 1992 by being chosen as the Michigan Council Chapter of the Year. It has been distinguished by the National Office of Trout Unlimited in 1994, 1995, 1998, and again in 2006 by being given the Silver Trout Award for Region 5. We like to see our members attend meetings and other functions and we would like to welcome you to Trout Unlimited and the Kalamazoo Valley Chapter. Together we can work to be sure our children, and their children, will know the pleasure of fishing for wild, healthy trout in an unspoiled environment. |
